These word study cards are used as part of the word study lesson plan component of the Small-Group Differentiated Reading Model for intermediate readers. Teachers can download and print the cards for themselves and for individual students. The cards coincide with the word study scope and sequence presented in Appendix B, where directions for weekly word sorts also can be found.

Note: Some sorts include many words. Teachers may choose to limit the number of word study cards the group uses. We recommend that at least seven cards be included for each feature for sorting purposes.

Header cards

Header word cards also are used as part of the word study lesson plan. Teachers can create header word cards by printing out the blank word study card form and writing the header words on them. Header words are presented in Appendix B of the book.
