Advocacy Award

Eligibility: state and provincial councils

The Advocacy Award annually recognizes state and provincial councils that demonstrate how they are working to affect educational policy and legislation through effective advocacy at the local, state/provincial, and/or national levels. Read more...

Award of Excellence

Eligibility: state and provincial councils

Presently annually, the Award of Excellence is awarded to state and provincial associations that have distinguished themselves through organizing and implementing a wide range of programs and activities in their state or province that (a) serve and support councils and members, (b) contribute to education, and (c) coincide with and support the programs and goals of the Association. Celebrate Literacy Award

Eligibility: state, provincial, and local/special interest/student councils

The Celebrate Literacy Award recognizes organizations, institutions, and individuals that have made significant literacy contributions at the local, state, or provincial level. The hope is that the celebration will familiarize the public with literacy activities in the community and call attention to the work that is being done by the schools and the International Reading Association to promote literacy worldwide. Council Achievement Awards

Eligibility: state and provincial councils

The Council Achievement Awards are awarded annually to state and provincial councils who demonstrate exceptional achievement in the areas of Teacher Empowerment, Community Engagement, and Public Awareness by engaging in activities and efforts that aid in the fight to eliminate illiteracy in our world. The state or province that demonstrates exceptional achievement in all three of these strategic areas will be honored with the IRA Distinguished Council Award. Read more....

Exemplary Reading Program Award

Eligibility: All public, private, and parochial schools in the United States and Canada are eligible for the award, provided: The state or province in which the school is located has an Exemplary Reading Program Award Committee currently in place to judge program applications from that state or province and at least one faculty or staff member of that school is a current IRA member.

The Exemplary Reading Program Award is sponsored by the International Reading Association to recognize outstanding reading and language arts programs at all grade levels (elementary, middle, and high school). Honor Council Award

Eligibility: local, special interest and student councils

The Honor Council Program annually recognizes local and special interest councils that organize and conduct well-rounded programs serving the council members, the community, the state/provincial association or affiliate, and the International Reading Association. Read more...

Local Council Community Service Award

Eligibility: local, special interest and student councils

The Local Council Community Service Award honors a local IRA council for outstanding service to its community and literacy. National affiliates are eligible in countries without local councils. Read more...
