Pearson Foundation-IRA-Rotary Literacy Project Awards

Rotary International and the International Reading Association (IRA) have had a cooperative relationship since 2002 working hand-in-hand strengthening literacy in their communities and internationally. New literacy service projects jointly undertaken by Rotary clubs and IRA/affiliated reading councils in 2011-12 may be considered for a monetary award generously offered by the Pearson Foundation. After reading the application, if you need more information on this Pearson Foundation recognition, Rotarians should contact programs@rotary.org, and IRA members should contact irawash@reading.org.

"We Give Books" details

(regarding the last application question for the Pearson/Rotary/IRA literacy prize): This Pearson/Rotary/IRA literacy prize offers, in addition to the cash award, the opportunity for you as the applicant to select a literacy campaign that the Pearson Foundation would place on its We Give Books web site. This listing on the We Give Books site positions your selected literacy group to receive 1,000 books.

In your case, if your application wins one of the two Pearson/Rotary/IRA literacy prize awards, the literacy organization you identified on your application would be posted on the We Give Books web site. You can encourage your members to go to the We Give Books web site and read any of the 200+ books listed on the site, asking your members to designate your selected group as a recipient of a book. Each book read from the list on the site brings you closer to your goal of 1000 books read, that will result in that same number of books being donated to your designated group. The 1000 books that the Pearson Foundation will donate to the awardee's literacy group, with guidance from you, will be age/audience appropriate to your selected literacy group. Please see the We Give Books site: http://www.wegivebooks.org/
