Broadcast Media Awards for Television

The Broadcast Media Awards for Television recognize outstanding reporting and programming on television and cable television that deal with reading and literacy, recognize the value of reading in today’s society, and/or promote reading as a lifetime habit. Entries must be oriented toward the general public rather than professionals in reading education, and should be informational, critical, or motivational rather than instructional. Association members can encourage entries by notifying broadcast media personnel that a program is appropriate for consideration

Awarded for the program "Mayor’s Book Talk television show"

Rebecca Heimstead Rebecca Heimstead

Rebecca Heimstead is the Youth Corps & Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Tampa. She produces the Mayor’s Book Talk television show for City of Tampa Television and oversees the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council, the Mayor’s Mentoring Initiative and the Mayor’s Youth Corps, a youth organization formed to give high school students a voice in city government and to encourage community service. The Youth Corps produces a monthly youth-oriented television program – From the Corps - which has won four Hometown Video Festival Awards for Magazine Shows - Youth.

In 2008 the City of Tampa was recognized by the US Conference of Mayors with an Outstanding Achievement Award for Youth Initiatives including the Mayor’s Mentoring Initiative, the Mayor’s Book Talk television show and the Mayor’s Youth Corps.

Before joining the City of Tampa Heimstead worked as a VISTA volunteer in Resource Development and as Development Director for Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County. She has over 30 years of experience in fiscal, volunteer and program management for a variety of organizations including Junior Achievement of the San Francisco Bay Area and Junior Achievement of Chicago.
