The UNESCO International Reading Association Literacy Prize was founded in 1979 and is presented each September in conjunction with International Literacy Day celebrations. The 2008 winners will be announced in August 2008.
The Prize rewards the services of institutions, organizations, or individuals displaying outstanding merit and achieving particularly effective results in the fight for literacy. It also raises public awareness for literacy programs already in progress.
The IRA-funded Prize consists of US$20,000, a silver medal, and a certificate. For more information about the history of this award and IRA's sponsorship, please contact IRA's Public Information Office at pubinfo@reading.org.
