Who is the Future of Literacy?

30 under 30

The September/October 2015 issue of Reading Today will include ILA's first-ever 30 Under 30 list, and you will help determine who gets selected. We are looking for educators, administrators, authors, librarians, students, nonprofit leaders, politicians, technology experts, volunteers, advocates—anyone up-and-coming who is dedicated to literacy and making a difference. Whether their impact is felt in their classroom, the community, or the world, we want to hear about it.

Not only will those selected be featured in the magazine, but they will also be promoted across ILA's platforms and invited to participate in upcoming activities that support our shared cause.

Click here to nominate yourself or a fellow literacy leader. (Please note all nominations must be received by June 21, 2015, at 11:59 p.m. ET) Questions? Feel free to reach us at

We are always looking for articles that reflect current trends in literacy instruction and provide easy-to-implement tips for today's educators. We encourage you e-mail with article submissions or suggestions, but please keep in mind the following:

Word Count One magazine page is 500 words. Two pages (which is the average length) contain 1,000 words.
Style Use the ILA Style Guide. Consider inserting short section headers every three or four paragraphs. Reading Today is a magazine, not a journal, so we do not include references. If citing work is absolutely necessary, the references can be worked into the text as seen in typical magazine and newspaper articles. Include a brief bio with your name, position, and e-mail.
Images Save photos in JPG, TIFF, or PNG format. Image resolution should be 300 dpi. Do not place photos in a Word document. Programs such as Microsoft Word reduce the quality of photos and make them unsuitable for professional printing. Do not submit photos taken by cell phones, or photos you "Googled" and downloaded from the Internet. They often do not have a high enough resolution, and could violate copyrights.

Member News

ILA members can submit career news (books published, awards received, promotions/retirements, etc.) for consideration in Reading Today's News & Notes section. Contact information and links to background information, if applicable, should be included for verification. Photographs must follow guidelines above. Submissions, which must be 200 words or less, may be edited for clarity or length, and ILA reserves the right to all final editorial decisions. Send submissions either in Word or copied into the e-mail, with separate photo attachments, to with the subject line "News & Notes."
