About the International Reading Association
The International Reading Association (IRA) is a nonprofit, professional membership organization that promotes high levels of literacy for all by improving the quality of reading instruction disseminating research and information about reading, and encouraging a lifetime reading habit. The Association's more than 56,000 members include classroom teachers, reading specialists, consultants, administrators, supervisors, university faculty, researchers, psychologists, librarians, media specialists, and parents.
The Association affiliates with reading organizations in 99 countries, extending our network to more than 300,000 people worldwide. Governed by the Board of Directors, the Association supports literacy professionals through a wide range of advocacy efforts, volunteerism, and professional development activities and publishes position statements, resolutions, standards, and other resources for educators.
